We have run two-for-one shakes on Wednesdays for long enough that some regulars plan their week around it. The deal itself is simple. The strategy, it turns out, is not, and people have developed systems. Here are the rules, followed by the systems.
The rules
- Every Wednesday we are open, 7am to 3pm. It does not skip weeks.
- Any two shakes on the board. They do not have to match. A chocolate and a loganberry count. Malts count.
- One price. Two shakes for $7.95, the price of one. The deal is on shakes and malts; ask about floats.
- No purchase required beyond the shakes. You can walk in, order two shakes to go, and walk out. People do.
- No fine print. We mean it. This paragraph is the fine print.
The systems
The classic split
One person, two flavors, one straw in each. This is how you work through the Flavor Board without committing. A safe first pairing is chocolate and strawberry. A better one is coffee and chocolate peanut butter, which together taste like a very good candy bar.
The date
Two people, two shakes, a booth. This costs less than a coffee shop and is considerably more memorable. Bonus points if one of you orders loganberry and the other has never heard of it. In summer, take the two shakes out to the patio.
The office run
Someone takes orders, drives over, and comes back with a cardboard tray. Order in even numbers. If you order five, the fifth is full price and someone will be mad about it.
The kid deal
One shake for the kid, one for you, and you tell them it was for them. We have watched this happen many times and we support it.
The malt upgrade
Make both of them malts. It is the same price, and if you have never had a malt, Wednesday is the cheapest day to find out what the difference is.
Order in even numbers. The fifth shake is where friendships end.
How to make it a whole Wednesday
Here is the part most people do not know. We close at three. At four, our sister restaurant, right across the same parking lot, opens for dinner, and on Wednesdays it runs $1 wings at the bar until the kitchen closes at ten. Same family, same lot, two deals, one day.
So the full Wednesday looks like this: breakfast or lunch here, two shakes, go do whatever you do on a Wednesday, then come back to the same parking lot for a plate of wings and a beer. You will have parked once. We wrote up how the two places fit together if you want the whole picture.
A polite request
Wednesdays get busy at the Shake Bar around lunch. If you are ordering for a group, calling ahead to the diner helps, and we will have your tray ready. And please, order in even numbers.
